DU Student Spirit Committee Announces Events

(above) The DU Grilling Society will be pregaming again this hockey season and as always the events are open to the public
Over the summer the University of Denver Spirit Committee was formed to build awareness of school spirit.  The main purpose of the organization is to create synergy among the various organizations and individuals on campus to promote school spirit.  According to DUSC co-chair Joey Leon, the following has been accomplished:
  • The DU Cheerleading Squad has been selected for the upcoming year.
  • Interest in the DU Pep Band is at an all-time high and they will perform at every Saturday night home hockey game this season, as well as the Friday night CC game.
  • A bus trip for students will be organized for the Feb. 4th hockey game in Colorado Springs against Colorado College
  • This year's Homecoming Weekend will feature many new events for students and their parents
  • The DU Grilling Society tailgates and BBQ's before the hockey games will be bigger and many campus organizations will participate
  • This year's Student Season Ticket Campout was the largest ever, thanks in part to all the planning that was done over the summer

Great to see all this positive energy on campus. Combine these initiatives with the largest Freshman class in school history and I think we're going to see some magic in the student section at hockey games.

BTW: Boone will be in Boston opening weekend against BC & BU

BTW Part II: The DU Alumni Magazine is going to publish an article about LetsGoDU in the Winter Issue.

This school spirit effort has been going on for years now, and it's great to see these student leaders taking it to the next level with energy coming together with some organization!

Ultimately, these efforts are crucially important - the don't just build memories - they bring the school closer together and bring the Denver community closer to the school, as well as helping others around the country to see who we are...

It’ great to see this committee step up. This group is taking affirmative steps unlike the fossils over on USCHO that just bitch and tear players down. Hell, most of them don’t even bother to attending a game anymore. Great to see this group on campus getting out there and doing something positive.

Plenty of those DU poster "fossils" on USCHO have done TONS for school spirt at DU - DG, Swami, Co14ers, Chris, Old Pio, Kscant, PioneerPhanatic, Cross-Czech, Du78, Pablo, Miller, John Poli (just to name a few of them) have all contributed a great deal of time, money, attendence and effort to upping the spirt level at DU. I am sure there are others, too.

Who's PioneerPhanatic?

PioneerPhanatic is a friend of mine. And thanks Anon 5:05. Anon 4:16 can suck it.

However, anon @ 4:16 is correct in that a lot of the people who think they are DU Super Fans do not bother to attend games. It's just a fact, jack.

11:45 and 4:16...you do know that many of the most active posters on USCHO don't even live in Colorado? They live in parts of the country where DU hockey is non-existent and the message boards is where they come to share their passion with others. IMHO, the fact that they barely ever get to see a DU game in person and yet they are still more passionate about the Pioneers than 99% of people that have season tickets...it enhances their status as a fan rather than detracting from it.

Fans don't need to go to the games to be good fans.

With a satelite dish and a computer, you can follow the Pioneers from almost anywhere.

Would you want to sit next to Old Pio at a game? Here him talk about the good ‘ol days. When they had a swingin’ pep band at the old barn.

I’m thinking CO14ers not attending is a bonus! Is that really the image that you want people to remember about our fan base? I guess it’s better than the fat guy wearing the toga.

I suppose what is at least ironic about this is that the people who don't go generally complain about small crowds. No matter the reason, if you are not part of the solution...

Also, @ 1:53, I can catch, say, Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, etc on TV on any given weekend if I feel like it and also comment about those games on tha internets if I feel like it. Does that magically make me a super fan of any of those programs just because I watch and can comment? Not really. Being "in the mix" is the only true way to have your finger on the "Pio Pulse". I mean, college hockey is NOT, say, MLB, NFL, NBA, NCAAFB or NCAABB, where the coverage is extremely extensive with many, many sources...with NCAA Hockey, you really need to a part of it as most info is face-to-face (for lack of a better term) interaction and is near impossible to really "get it" from afar.

Those are my two pennies of thought. I'm sure the losers and geezers will f-f-f-flame away, however, so be it. Flamers can interest me...if you catch me at the right time. :-)

Is PioneerPhanatic the guy who “routes” for DU in his signature line on USCHO? Or is he the one who can’t spell Dubielewicz?

The guy who "routs" for DU is a transplanted Maineuh with porridge in place of a brain.

The Dubie guy is "Dubbie31", and is a red-headed pipsqueak who was probably drunk when he branded himself. Kinda like that guy who gets a forehead tattoo that he realy shouldn't have.

I love my DU Hockey brothers and sisters, but they are in need of some tough love a lot of the time.

Wouldn't that be "hear" Old Pio talk? I'd prefer that he stay home, drink his Crown Royal and bitch about the lack of fan enthusiasm from his lazy boy.

Go DU!

DG, your website is turning into a bathroom during the 2nd intermission at Magness...all the dicks are coming here to hang out.

Anonymous said...

So are the pussies. Your point?

vizoroo said...

Come on boys! Just because we aren't at Magness doesn't mean we aren't fans. When I moved to SoCal, finding ANY college hockey score in the LA Times required perserverance and a magnifying glass. Thanks to the internet we can keep up with the team and enjoy some friendly banter with the "like minded".

I think it's great that school spirit is coming back in vogue. It only enhances the college experience. Kudos to those who have worked to bring it back in style.

Allow me to reiterate...this place is like the ladies bathroom during the 2nd intermission at Magness, all the pussies are hanging out.

It's gettin' feisty in here. Let's hope the DU team shows this much fight!

I blame Swami for these divisions.

6:24, you're one of them. Don't sit down on the piss while you squat.

Imaws Kcup said...

Not only will the hockey show more fight than this, but they will skate and move their feet!

The coaches and media were correct to pick DU to win the WCHA. I have no reservations or concerns about the upcoming season.

Yes!! MOVE YOUR FEET!!!

Skip Wacum said...

Heck ya! Imaws and anon know best!

MOVE YOUR FEET! Should be our rallying cry.
