Denver Post: CC Looks Into Arena Security Issues

(above) Dangerous conditions in World Arena for players & spectators on Friday night
From: Denver Post
by Mike Chambers

It wasn't the same as dodging chickens, dead or alive, from the stands of the old Broadmoor World Arena or DU Arena, but plenty of food and beverages were tossed at players, coaches and officials Friday in Colorado Springs.

University of Denver freshman center Quentin Shore was soaked with beer, and equipment manager Nick Meldrum was covered in nachos. The Pioneers' entire bench was bombarded with debris after the emotional end of their 6-5 victory over CC at the Colorado Springs World Arena [read entire article].

If any fans had any unpleasant experiences at World Arena on Friday night, I would recommend posting them in the "Comments Section" of the Denver Post article. Doing so may protect future World Arena patrons from injuries or dangerous situations.

You can be darn sure that Colorado College bigshots will be monitoring the article & comments in the Post.

If there are any future incidents at World Arena that results in injuries or fatalities leaving comments provides a "paper trail" that plantiff attorneys will have no trouble following.

Back in the day, going to a CC/DU game in Colorado Springs was an special experience at the old Broadmoor World Arena. The arena was on the grounds of the five star hotel and had red carpeting in the aisles and the arena was surrounded by a gorgeous lake to walk around. CC fans were upscale and friendly. You looked forward to those games and you felt special to be there, as two elite private schools battled it out in a unique, very upscale environment.

Now, it's the sadly the opposite. CC plays in a generic cinder block arena surrounded by chain restaurants and parking lots. The CC crowd is no longer sweaters and khakis, either. It's filled with drunken townies in t-shirts who just got off work at the local auto-body shop and are looking for fights on and off the ice.

I think CC makes much more money now, but the event has gone from special to potentially dangerous and that is really sad...

Na we didn't have any problem while we were there.

Funny thing, I remember a couple seasons ago when the DU student was criticized for "unruly behavior" and they got a lot of heat for just being the louder fans. I think CC should take a good look at itself now.

Yeah, it is not a cool situation down there. Too bad it has degenerated to this level. Nothing to do with collegiate pride, just drunks with a chip on their shoulder being dicks.

Great job DG on the comment in the post article. Your impeccable reputation will carry a ton of weight in this matter.

Once again, you need to get a life.

The first person that needs to get a life, is the person whose life is so meaningless, that he spends it visiting another team's blog. Not only that, he has the time to follow DG's comments in a Denver Post article! Kinda sad.

Anonymous (11:36) that's the best analysis I've ever heard. Right on the nose. There was a special ambiance playing the World Arena. I'm guessing many hotel guests came to those games. What a place! In addition to the World Arena they also used to have a rodeo arena with rooms, which is where Murray always had the Pioneers stay. Far from the madding crowd. The hotel also had an Abercrombie & Fitch (not the kiddy store of today, but the world's greatest sports outfitters). There were only four of those in the country: New York, Chicago, San Francisco and The Broadmoor. As I've mentioned before, I had my first experience with an expense account at the Broadmoor, and was a fast learner.

The press box was accessable by a ladder. And you had to hump your broadcast gear up that ladder while trying to avoid falling on your ass. And the "box" was slung so tight against the roof of the place, if you stood up injudiciouly, you'd hit your head on the ceiling.

I don't remember if they sold beer at the old World Arena (I was never there as a spectator)but that may account for some bad behavior for fans.

One of the worst fights ever in the history of DU hockey occurred there and involved DU players going up into the stands. CC suspended play with DU for a season, which meant that year we didn't get to play the tradtional tail end clubs: CC and Minnesota (which was then engaged in their generation long gutless permanent refusal to play DU).

Just imagine, you're staying at the Broadmoor and have a free evening on your hands. Well, there's always a DI hockey game in their own private arena for your amusement! Dow Finsterwald was for many years the club golf pro (Eisenhower had his first heart attack while playing at the Broadmoor). Lots of good memories. Including the '69 NC game where George Morrison undressed Dryden.

You du fans are the biggest bunch of vaginas grow a sack.

Anonymous said...

How does one grow a sack? I don't know what that means. Does this involve stem cells, because that is pretty controversial!

Researchers and biotech executives foresee the day when the effects of many catastrophic diseases can be reversed. The damaged brains of CC fans may be restored. Nut sacks can be grown. Stem cells provide hope that this dream will become a reality.

I am not sure whether CC fans lack nut sacks. I can say for sure, however, that North Dakota fans have a brain/nut sack hybrid whose only purpose is to compel them to live in a wasteland and eat walnuts by the fistful.

I think 11:36 missed the part about throwing chickens and other barnyard animals in the good 'ol days.

I love how old pee got in that he had to carry his "broadcast gear" up a ladder. But he forgot to mention that to get in you had to present an onion. Not just any onion, a fist sized red onion …..

The three year old N.DK. boy looked at his testicles and asked his mother-"mommy are those where my brains are"? She replied "not yet"

From a sioux fan perspective the big mistake the cc fans made was not punching du's largest fan. Lamian goddard

Lot's of good memories ... like having a heart attack!

Hey, 6:42:

Show me one example of a DU fan going on a Sioux blog and threatening people? Or even insulting anyone?

You likely won't find one...

Yet sioux fans spew their bile here every week, like a party guests leaving turds in the punchbowl...

That is the difference between fan bases...

Anonymous said...

The difference in fan bases is that UND has a fan base.

DU is the turd in the WCHA punchbowl.

There's a ton of shit in the WCHA punchbowl... but North Dakota piratically sprays the green diarrhea into it.
