UND Player Requests DU Coeds Wear Sweatshirts

Puck Daddy has an article about University of North Dakota hockey player Rocco Grimaldi.  Apparently the Freshman wants less sexy outfits on the fairer sex.  Should be pretty interesting in the DU student section on Feb. 24-25 when North Dakota comes to town.

USA Under-18s Defeat Belarus 7-1

Host Belarus is still looking for its first win at the World U18 Championship after falling 7-1 against the United States. The result did nothing to alter USA’s second-place finish in Group A and Belarus’ place in the relegation round.

Five different U.S. players scored in the shutout win. DU recruit Jason Zucker, Rocco Grimaldi and Brandon Saad paced all players with a goal and an assist each. Grimaldi will be visiting DU this summer for a visit. He is also looking at Notre Dame and North Dakota.

It took most of the first period for the Americans to get on the board, but they rallied with two quick goals to take the 2-0 lead just before the break. Another pair of goals in the first four minutes of the second period doubled the lead to 4-0.

Luke Moffat put in his first goal of the event to bump the advantage to 5-0. Shortly after, Belarus spoiled the shutout when Artur Abmiotka put in a power-play goal to end the period on a positive note.

The U.S. continued to find little resistance from the Belarus defense in the third period, putting in two power-play goals in the first five minutes to make it a 7-1 affair.

The U.S. will make the move to Minsk tomorrow and will face the Czechs in Tuesday’s quarterfinal. Belarus will play its first relegation round game against Slovakia. Canada lost to Sweden 5-4.

US Rolls Belarus 13-2 In World Under 18 Tune-Up

DU recruit Jason Zucker scored a power play goal as the U.S. Men's National Under-18 Team downed Belarus, 13-2, yesterday in its first of two pre-tournament games leading up to the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Under-18 Championship, to be held in Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus, April 13-23.

DU's other recruit on Team USA, Nick Shore, was credited with an assist. Team USA outshot Belarus by a 53-12 margin and fifteen USA players registered at least a point.

Two possible recruits that have been linked to DU, Austin Czarnik (3g-2a) and Rocco Grimaldi (0g-5a) each registered five points to pace the U.S. Czarnik visited DU this past winter on a recruiting visit, but is rumored to be leaning towards major junior hockey in Canada. Grimaldi will visit Notre Dame, North Dakota and DU on his way home to California this summer. Both players would enter college in 2011.

2011 Recruit Rocco Grimaldi talks about playing for the U.S. National Development Program. He was recently promoted from the Under-17 team to the Under-18 team and is playing with future Pioneers Jason Zucker and Nick Shore.

Grimaldi may be the #1 college recruit in the country for 2011. Needless to say recruiting coordinators will be nervously watching his "Road Trip" back to California with keen interest.
