Behind three late-game melees and seven major penalties, nine 10-minute misconducts and five game misconducts, North Dakota leads the country in penalty minutes, averaging 22.2 per game.

The Fighting Sioux's latest fight-interrupted game came Saturday night against the visiting University of Denver, and Pioneers coach George Gwozdecky was disturbed by all facets of it. (rest of article)

the refs screwed this up by not letting radke and testwuide go earlier. that would have prevented the 2nd fight as nobody else was gona fight. no more oenalties need to be handed down for either team. the wcha needs to look at their refs big time. the one ref watched the fight and didnt do a thing. theres your problem. not the sioux or denver. its hockey. go wcha

The ref's initially screwed up by not booting Testwuide and the UND player rather than giving them double minors or whatever the penalties were. You don't drop the gloves in college hockey and if you do it is an qutomatic game DQ. The players are well aware of this - this is not Junior A. The refs conveniently forgot this rule. I am certaain that they meant well (didn't want to kick the players out of the game) but this set the state for the later crap that occurred. I agree completely with Coach G about the code/unwritten rule which is that you never, ever hit a man when he is down. This is the ultimate act of cowardice and is very dangerous to say the least. The WCHA needs to follow the lead of the Atlantic Division and suspend this UND guy for the remainder of the season. Don't know if you need to do anything more to the DU player - he already got whooped.

Funny how DU is complaining about the refs and the way things were handled when if it weren't for Randy Schmidt two games DU "won" against Wisconsin and St Cloud St might not be wins at all....I think North Dakota is a team of talented goons this year and needs to be stopped. I don't think Hakstol gives a shit whether they fight or not and what people think of UND...BUT I think DU needs to stop whining because they have gotten some amazing breaks this year

suspend radke for hitting him for the season..hahahahhahahahah..you lost all hockey credibility, wow....your pussy ass player was fighting with his helmet ON for petes sake. come on. grow a pair. he got his butt kicked fair and suare. the other ef could have broken it up but he watched in amusement, theres your problem. the refs. radke and testwuide should have been allowed to fight ealrier and then kicked out and the refs screwed that up again big time. you are crayx to think he should be suspended for the season. joke.

HOW ABOUT THIS RULE YOU PANZIES

TAKE YOUR HELMET OFF WHEN YOU FIGHT, ESPECIALLY I COLLEGE WHEN YOU HAVE A FULL CAGE. RADKE HAD TO RIP IT OFF THEN KICK HIS ASS. GET OVER IT, GROW A PAIR, SERIOUSLY PEOPLE...WOW..TAKING THIS STUFF WAY TO SERIOUSLY OVERALL..TAKE A STEP BACK, BREATHE, GO HAVE A 5 DOLLAR STARBUCKS THEN GET LAID, RELAXATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS RIGHT? ITS AHOCKEY GAME AND SOME ARE ACTING LIKE ITS A WAR..HAHAHAH

maybe people i denver should worry about brock trotter in trouble with the law for being mean to a lady friend, thats why he is gone folks.......couldnt be nice to the lady, scumbags of the earth are like brock..way to keep it hidden DU

WCHA said ..... trotter in trouble with the law ....

Unless you provide proof of this, it's just slander on your part??

1. Testuwide would have cleaned Radke's clock, as he was well on his way to doing in the first fight.

2. Vossberg should have taken his helmet off to fight. Doesn't excuse Radke pounding on him when he's flat on the ice.

3. wcha...you couldn't get laid in a morgue.

azsioux brought up an interesting point at SS. last year testwuide beat the crap out of gordon, when gordon was on his back. code of conduct doesnt apply there? i think i speak for many sioux fans when i say that it is inappropriate for gwoz to be so outspoken about what a bunch of goons the sioux are. the gopher fans are calling for sioux suspensions(mostly because they are bored and the gophs suck this year) i would like to know what you think, because even though im a biased sioux fan, i know that the situations that the sioux have been in this year were not one-sided.

I like the comment before about how DU is complaining and yet the refs gave them two wins against wisconin and st cloud? Anybody think its a little ridiculous to enjoy reaping the benefits of terrible refs and then bitch and moan about them later.....

I see the UND whiners have made it over to this blog to defend their thugs. They simply cannot accept that multiple people from multiple teams around the league are calling them out for their thug-like displays on the ice. Let's hope the league office warns them and then cracks down severely if it happens again because UND is obviously a program that is out of control and is a disgrace to college hockey.

Regardless of who's at fault this week, last week or next week, everybody's going to look pretty stupid if somebody gets seriously hurt in the future.

Will the WCHA crack down? Probably a 50-50 coin flip.

We already have a pretty thick "Apology Letter File," maybe we'll soon have a "Stern Warning File."

personally, i like this fight better:

nice job by testwuide punching gordon while gordon is on the ice. wait...isn't that against the code??

what about that, gwoz?

What do you expect from North Dakota? Cheapest team in college hockey. Worse than CC and Minnesota. They've certainly got an honorable track record. And they've got some classy, well educated representation on the blogs too. Sorta like CC...

And for the record Vossberg ripped Radke's helmet off. Sorry Sioux fans, your player wasn't less of a pussy for the helmet. Get over yourselves.

Anonymous said...

He ripped of Radke's helmet, but kept his on for fun? :)

I can't believe Testwuide doesn't know the precious code!

DU fans if you were not at the game and just saw it on youtube you have no right to say most of the things you are saying. Sure I do agree with radke should not have been punching him while the play was on the ice but suspended the rest of the year? Reach. The whole thing started when finley and some DU guy were cherping at each other then Mannino came in with a punch. And since radke won the fight you are all up in arms on how cheap our team is. Did you also notice your whole team was on the ice compared to our 10 maybe? Get over it if you dont like rough play try watching tennis instead.

anon 5:16- its not one fight that prompts us to get upset at your team for being cheap. you've got an uneniable track record thats more than a couple players. it involves lots of players, and a head coach. thats a little shameful. and why would vossberg stop fighting/protecting himself just to take his helmet off in the middle of a fight? sure, that seems reasonable.

The whole whining bit about UND is a crock. Both super powers UD and the U are just bitter that they have tanked this year. I am more than sure that the beating UND has handed out are nothing more than retribution for all the "trash" that has been strewn at them.

Gwoz is an idiot. How about the written rules about allowing players on the ice before and after? Give him the benefit of the doubt with the tunnel positioning and let's talk about the gauntlet his players formed before Mannino ignited the fracas. Radke was well off the ice when Mannino took the first swing and skated away. Radke did nothing more than finish what Mannino started and showed Mannino what happens when you try to bully a team.

jhahn4-

I seem to recall DU players getting in fights in games that didn't involve UND. So you could say DU has a track record too. Also, Gwoz has been tossed for games before for his conduct (dasher dance, anyone), so you could say that it extends to DU's head coach as well. That's a little shameful, don't you think?

You can't have it one way, and not the other.

:)

The "intellectual" banter going on here is great stuff. At the very least good for a few laughs.

Both teams share blame here. DU fans who think otherwise are misinformed and any Sioux fans who think their team should be immune from criticism are delusional. Obviously this rivalry continues to simmer.

If I'm not mistaken both teams have games this weekend. Time to play hockey and quit the pissing contest.
