Bad Boy Winner To Be Announced At Noon Today

Past Winners

Voting Open Until Noon MDT Today

This is your opportunity to vote for LetsGoDU's prestigious 2007-08 Bad Boy Of The Year. Just drop a comment below, we'll tally up your votes and announce a winner on Hobey Baker Friday during the Frozen Four. We have eleven worthy candidates, but you may feel that we've left some out, so we'll accept "write-ins."

It was a solid, if not spectacular season for our college hockey Bad Boyz candidates. College hockey coaches led from the front with a DUI incident and "flipping off" a referee. We had a WCHA Director of officials berating a little league umpire (You just can't make this stuff up).

College hockey players were charged with crimes such as distributing improper video's on YouTube, identity theft and arrested for disorderly conduct. Players were suspended from their teams for allegedly having a "three-way" with a recruit, drinking after a funeral, painting their faces black, touching a woman's breast & possession of a stolen bicycle.

Of course there were many incidents that didn't make the newspapers such as the Boston College suspensions or Brock Trotter's mysterious situation at Denver.

Man, this is a tough call. Hak, CC, I got in an e-mail argument with Shepherd, he's quite the idiot. Good luck with this decision.

Probably the most competitive field we've ever had. Some serious allegations and some funny incidents.

With the high level of candidates in the running, perhaps we should follow the precedent set by the Hobey Baker award, and name the HatTrick Three. My nominations are:
1. CC recruiting squad
2. Brown "XXX" rated videographer
3. Michigan's ID thief for Credit--independent study class, no doubt.

My first inclination is to vote for cc, but the kid from Brown is a viable candidate. (Perhaps the Brown administrator who knew of the incident should be listed as well. He and UND's Hakstol could share Honorable Mention for Leadership by example.)
But you can't really ignore the Michigan thief who not only broke the law, but also screwed his own teammate. Besides after the purient nature of my first two choices, felt it was time to get out of the gutter.

what about that BC womens coach having with his players? was that this year?? and we had a very solid year at UND! GO SIOUX :)

btw, i could not be more jealous of that bc coach.

Some good candidates for sure. My vote is for Hak -- his publicly televised display truly represents the epitome of a collegiate sportsman and provided inspiration to young children across the greater Midwest. However, in the event that Hak or Oshie fail to independently bring the award to its rightful place in Grand Forks, is LGDU willing to consider some type of lifetime achievement award for the Sioux program as a whole? It just seems wrong to overlook a program that is willing to put such a comprehensive effort toward winning the Bad Boy (Coach, players, students, etc.)

Despite Curious George's, the DU Administration's and LetsGoDU's attempts to completely cover it up, Brock Trotter gets my vote.

Some good choices here-- supposedly cucumber-cool Hakstol flipping something other than his lid, Shep making this former West St. Paul, MN resident ashamed, CC's lame minstrel show, pitiful petty theft... all were honorable mentions for me. Gotta go w/identity theft by a Wolverine. For gawd's sake, you U of M guys get everything on a silver platter anyway. ID theft/credit fraud grinds my gears.

Nice try with Trotter. Whatever he did, he's a choirboy compared to the delinquents and hooligans running around in Grand Forks. Coach Hak sure knows how to set the example. Way to go, Coach!!

Dirty said...

We'll never know will we given that DU has completely covered it up. The only thing close to this is the Warren Report, so I can only assume that Trotter assassinated one of the Kennnedy's.

Nice job, Dirty. You should be easy to spot in Denver. Some dumb a** yahoo walking around picking sod out of your hole.

I vote for the elevator pissing incident.

"Curious George..."

Clever. Did you make that up yourself?

It's kinda nice having a coach here at DU who conducts himself with class and integrity. Too bad for UND....they have class like a turd has fragrance.

Gwoz has so much integrity that he wished good luck to a guy who supposedly murdered a Kennedy.

DU fans should stop living in a fantasy world and admit they have just as good of a candidate as any other school for this prestigious award.

I'd have to vote for ol Harry from Brown. Couldn't he at least find someone over 21 for his production?? The enrollment at Brown at about 7,000 I think, and the population greater Providence is in the hundreds of thousands. DU fan Ron Jeremy needs to give this young man some advice.

My vote goes to the kid from Michigan for identity theft. Stealing bank account numbers from one's own teammates is about as low as it gets. Didn't this kid have a full ride?? He must have had quite a bar tab.

I vote for Oshie giving another player a golden shower in the elevator. Priceless! He didn't win last year...so I think that he should be a shoo in for this year! Come on...support his stupidity! :)

Anonymous said...

My vote goes to Hakstol!
He's class-less! Can't expect players to obey rules with his type of conduct!

Anonymous said...

Hard to argue against Oshie. That's a strong pick. Anyone who takes a leak on a public elevator deserves a prize.

Oshie's a piece of work.....talented no doubt, but as dimwitted as a tire iron. He's lucky if his IQ hits room temperature.

I don't know if Schmidt's officiating could be considered in the Bad Boyz finals because it always helped DU, but if not I would have to give a top three, in no real order, of CC's Black Face, Oshie Elevator Incident, and Hak's Finger.

Anonymous said...

CC and the 3 way.

Anonymous said...

I have to go with ...
1. Oshie Elevator
2. Hak Finger
3. Michigan ID

Anonymous said...

Gotta go with the Cee Cee Three.

I'm submitting my vote for the Hak

If Hak can get suspended for stuff done during a game... Randy Schmitt's "I gotta get to the bar before happy hour closes... show me one frame... just one frame Vasily... NO GOAL" call, after another call at SCSU which torques that game too, both of which gets him suspended not for a game, but the rest of the season... that guy has to at least be a nominee.

Randy Schmidt is now officially a "write in" candidate.

Okay here's my take:

CC Blackface? Insensitive and idiotic? Yes. Should have known better? You bet. Unintentional? certainly.

Greg Sheppard? Stupid is as stupid does. Not criminal, but dumb.

CC's Three Way? Consenting three ways are just fine by me, but with a recruit? Ewww...Stupid and Bad judgement all around, but not really criminal, IMHO.

Hakstol's finger: Heat o' the moment and small potatoes. We've all flipped the bird at one time or another, even high ranking political officials do this. Non-starter.

Oshie's Bladder? Please. We've all had to go while drinking, but rarely are we ever trapped with no outlet...Embarrasing? Yes. Bad? no.

Michigan ID theft? Criminal? certainly. But we've had so much better criminals in the past, Like John Scott. Ugly to screw over mate, but all in all, kinda amateur, IMHO.

That leaves me with the SERIOUS 'crimes', the most serious of which seems to be the Brown player who may face child porn charges as result of the video. I don't know a lot about this case, but if the person in the videos is really a child, that is dangerous stuff.

And Blaise MacDonald, who as a leader of men, a DUI is bad news. He could've killed someone, and there is no excuse in this day and age for blowing a .23 and driving a car...

The winner? If the Brown kid is convicted, he gets my vote. But if he doesn't, then Blaise gets it.

Isn't North Dakota up for some sort of Lifetime Achievement award?

Anonymous said...

I vote for the CC three. Not only a sausage fest, but hosted by Lampl's parents. Priceless!

Anon April 4 7:00PM - With regards to UND being up for a "Lifetime Achievement Award", Anon April 3 1:53 PM made that suggestion. The LetsGoDU executive board is taking this proposal under consideration. It is unbelievable that one institution has garnered "Lifetime Achievement" status in only the 3rd season of the awards.

My vote goes to the CC hat trick recruiting trio for this season. This was the most competitive field in the 3 seasons. Year 1 winner John Scott will always hold a special place in my heart because he put the bar so high in the first year.

dggoddard said...

In all fairness to Lampl's parents, they weren't hostng the "Swinger Party," just invited guests.

Anonymous said...

all this talk about class from fans of the only program that had a (talent-less goon) convicted rapist on the squad. now that, my friends, is priceless

Anonymous said...

7:03, why don't you learn the facts about the case before throwing aound such innaccurate accusations...

1) You totally leave out the legal fact that the 'conviction' was a JUVENILE offense when the player was 16 years old, probation was served and the offense was totally expunged from his record when he turned 18 -thus the player was no longer 'convicted' before he ever arrived on the DU campus or played for the DU team.

Summation of three brothers' discussion... may we each have a vote?

Eldest: Statuatory child porn from a spoiled rich kid. Shows their responsibility levels. And we Americans know what can happen when one ends up as president.

Middle: (MacDonald of Mass-- Lowell) The coach is supposed to set an example. Flipping off the ref is bad enough, but nothing like drunk driving. Most of us need a drink once in a while, but when you're under that scrutiny, you have to watch it.

Youngest: Wolverine credit card fraud, because Michigan s*&^s royal donkey. (FYI: Middle brother is a Michigan alum.)

Anon (Monday, April 7, 2008 11:42:00 PM CDT)

A juvenile record is not expunged, it is sealed because he was a minor. They are two very different things and it could come back to bite him in the ass later if he so choses to do something similarly stupid.
