D-Man Patrick Wiercioch Signs With DU

Mike Chambers of the Denver Post broke the story late yesterday. Patrick Wiercioch signed an LOI with DU yesterday to play next season. He was one of DU's recruiting targets this past season and originally verballed to Wisconsin for 2009. When David Carle announced he was unable to play, the door opened for Patrick who was looking for immediate playing time which Wisconsin apparently couldn't give him. Patrick was a 2nd round pick by the Ottawa Senators in the recent NHL draft.

Mike Chambers has clarified in his blog how and why Wiercioch decided to decommit to Wisconsin and to sign an LOI with DU.

The Pioneers should be a force this year. Lots of fire power, they big question mark is goaltending

agreed on gtending ... but this team will SCORE ... I see us either winning or losing a lot of 5-4 games ... as a fan, that's a ton of fun.

I don't think there's any question about goaltending. Chevy is a calm, collected goaltender, and his rebounds go to the side of the net, not in front like Manno. Like MagnessMan says, DU passed up Bachman because they were so confident in Cheverie. A good sign.

This is terrific news. When one door closes another one opens. Looking forward to seeing Wiercioch this fall.

I agree, there won't be a lack of scoring. I sent an email to the DU coaching staff about Chevy. They of course are really confident in his abilities. Hey, maybe we could shut down CC this year!

Definitely helps ease the pain of losing D. Carle.

Does take the sting out of losing Carle. Hope David is to be seen around the arena. Cant wait to see this team.

season doesn't look too bad with the roster, the recruits for the upcoming season should be a good addition to the team. they have a decent offensive line, and the new addition to the defense will hopefully be a positive one.

DU you are very lucky to have Partick part of your team. He is one very special hockey player and young man. He lived with me in Omaha when he played for the Lancers, we are gonna miss him playing for us but he is more than ready to play for a college team. I have now become a DU hockey fan.And a lot of other Lancer fans have too. GO PIONEERS!!!
