CC 9 DU 2 Final

(above) Sam Brittain makes a save

The University of Denver hockey team traveled down to Colorado Springs to finish the home and home series with Colorado College. After an emotional win over CC Friday night, DU lost 9-2 in a penalty filled contest in which DU played one of their poorest games in recent years. DU led after the first period after being badly outshot. Drew Shore scored an unassisted goal to put DU up 1-0.

CC stormed back in the 2nd period with 3 power play goals. Nick Dineen at 3:43 got CC on the board with the 1st goal. Stephen Schultz got his 2nd goal in two nights to give CC the lead at the 6:45 mark. Jaden Schwartz got CC's 3rd goal to give them the 2-goal lead at the 14:55 mark.

CC scored 6 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to make it 9-1. Sam Brittain was pulled after the score was 5-1. Adam Murray came in and gave up the last 4 goals. Jason Zucker got DU's 2nd goal with just a few seconds left in the game. CC scored 5 power play goals on the evening.

That last goal to make it 9-2 was kind of a bummer. But... whatever... DU SUCKS!

CC had 44 shots on goal to only 17 for DU. No wonder CC scored 9 goals. Where was DU's offense?

Excellent question, but 44 shots against is nothing to be proud of. Where was DU's defense?

I'm glad this weekend is over. It must have been tough playing your archrival merely days after losing one of your team leaders to a horrific injury. I don't think anyone knew or could have predicted DU's mindset this weekend. The Pios had an impressive win last night. Tonight's game was awful all around--a mulligan. Not much else to say. DU was bad in all phases. But 2 points this weekend is admirable, given the circumstances. I like what I have seen of this team so far.

DU's schedule over the next few weeks, at least on paper, looks much less rigorous than the previous weeks. Hopefully we get some guys healthy and can build some momentum going into the holidays.

On USCHO, I had predicted a DU victory on Friday and a getting spanked in the Springs on Saturday, given the emotional roller coaster , the rough schedule and the depleted lineup DU is playing with these days.

DU had to hit the wall at some point, and they hit it hard.

I think DU will bounce back.

Not to kick a dog while it's down...

but...

isn't that what DU wanted out of tonight?

FYI - my hands are bruised from all the high fives!

Good luck to Martin. Best wishes.

DU SUCKS!!!

Ugly game tonight. Hockey is a weird game. The team that had so much intensity last night was no where to be seen tonight. This was the worst effort by a DU team, that I've ever seen. They got beat to the puck all night. Rycroft asked Gwoz if it would be legal to get them off the bus in Denver and make them skate--offered to lead the skate himself. Looks like their in for a long week of practice. It will be interesting to see how they react.

DU fans should not be worried.

The team was running on emotional and physical fumes, with a depleted lineup and enormous distraction and emotional duress, to say nothing of a brutal first 10 game schedule of top-flight opponents and rivals. A bad game now should not be surprising at all, given after what this team has been through of late. They hit a wall tonight.

The good news is that DU is at .500, which given the circumstances of the toughest opening schedule in DU history, big losses of top players to graduation and the pros, and horrible injury luck is pretty amazing.

DU will get some guys back next week, and they will be a better team next week. The schedule lightens a bit in terms of opponents, and DU should be able to get into good position soon.

DU had a greatwin Friday at Magness. And as Swami said, they hit the wall Saturday.

Du fans wanted 2 wins, but considering the circumstances, not surprised.

Prayers for Jesse. Keep the faith.

Boy, what a Friday night game it's going to be when these 2 teams meet again in the winter!! Running up the score like that always leaves a bad taste; which just adds to the lore of this storied rivalry.
I bought the one-time online PPV for $7.00, and I was happy with it. Sometimes you never know what you're in for with those internet feeds; other than having to listen to the CC play by play guy - who seemed stunned that the Tigers were winning - I recommend it to anyone in the future. Good quality, no issues, and no commercials or downtime. There was a delay between the 87.7fm audio & the internet video.

I've never seen they're little skit videos which they put on the jumbotron when DU gets a penalty....creaked me out when I saw it at first. I wondered what the hell thier mascot was doin in the penalty box with the DU guy!!!! LOL But credit to whoever came up with those.... they're pretty funny. I thought those weren't allowed in NCAA??? Funny stuff. WHat a fine how do you do for Adam Murray, too. I blame the air conditioning!!!! GO DENVER

CC did not run up the score. Murray should make saves when shots are taken 10 feet outside the blue line.
