Denver lacrosse fans gathered on campus and at local restaurants last weekend to watch the Pioneers defeat Johns Hopkins in an N.C.A.A. tournament quarterfinal in Hempstead, N.Y. But the most emotional viewing party took place on the team’s bus ride to the airport after clinching its first berth in the semifinals.

Players and coaches huddled around smartphones and watched video clips showing the revelry in Denver. They saw fans pumping their fists, dancing on tabletops and belting out the university’s fight song [read entire article].

Bill Tierney is taking a men's lacrosse program to its first NCAA Final Four. As submitters to a certain irreverent news-aggregating website might say, this is not a repeat from 1992.

This time it is Denver making its championship weekend debut.

The Pioneers (15-2) face Virginia (11-5) in Saturday's first semifinal at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium (4 p.m. ET, ESPN2). by Mark Kiszla

See those dudes smacking each other with sticks? They're building the American dream.

If you believe the USA is the land of opportunity, then the University of Denver made the dream come true by choosing the path less taken by picking up a lacrosse stick rather than strapping on a football helmet.

DU will make lacrosse history today, when it becomes the first school on the more beautiful side of the Mississippi River to host an NCAA Tournament game [read entire article].
"You invest in lacrosse because it's good for school spirit . . . and the growth of lacrosse is stark-raving crazy."

Denver Post Profiles DU Goalie Jamie Faus

by Mike Chambers

When goalie Jamie Faus made his first career start in the University of Denver's season opener Feb. 20 at traditional powerhouse Syracuse, the true freshman allowed 13 goals on 26 shots.

Pioneers coach Bill Tierney, who knows a thing or two about NCAA lacrosse, was impressed. "He was 50 percent in his first game in the toughest place to play, and he's only had one clunker game, which was at Hobart (seven saves), and we played Duke the next week and he won the game for us (16 saves)," Tierney said. "From that point on, he's been lights out" [read entire article].
