DU recruit Shawn Ostrow's Camrose Kodiacs were eliminated from the Alberta Hockey League's playoffs with a 4-0 Game #7 loss to the Brooks Bandits. Ostrow completed a fantastic comeback from a knee injury to lead the Kodiacs in scoring in the playoffs (2g-8a). Ostrow will be teamed with brother Kyle next season at Denver.

On Saturday the DU Grilling Society, LetsGoDU & Spanky's Roadhouse are co-hosting an event to build school spirit, get our fans pumped up for the Michigan Tech game that evening and promote "Boone Awareness."

If you're a member of Facebook.com you can RSVP for the event and forward invites to your friends. Just hit the "Invite People" Link and forward to your Facebook contacts.

Spanky's will rope off the parking lot so that we can tailgate, mingle and get psyched for the game. LetsGoDU will be selling commemorative long-sleeve T-shirts for 10 bucks (5 bucks for students), Puck Swami's Know Your Foe Blog will be hosting a poster contest, the "Boone Flag" will be on display to be signed by attendees. Then we'll march to Magness Arena en masse between 6-6:30 PM.

The weather is supposed to be in the high 40's and sunny, but the event will go on, rain or shine. If its cold, we'll have Spanky's Party Room reserved for our use.

(above) DU plays Minnesota State-Mankato twice this weekend

  • DU's rise in the standings has been led by some unexpected players. College Hockey News takes a look at the role Marc Cheverie, Luke Salazar and Anthony Maiani have had in the Pioneers success.
  • Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle, a former University of Denver star, has missed five games with back spasms and is taking anti-inflammatory medication. Carle, acquired from Tampa Bay on Nov. 7, has two goals and three assists in 23 games.
  • Minnesota State-Mankato's forward Kael Mouillerat will be back in the lineup after missing seven games with an upper body injury. He's a point a game player and a key to the Mavericks power play. [read rest of article]
  • The first 1,100 Minnesota State's student tickets are distributed for free on Wednesday's at MSU's Taylor Center. The school then sells additional student tickets for $6 apiece. MSU has 14,500 students.
  • The Boone image above was "Photoshopped" from Lars Paulgaard's new goalie mask by a DU student who has been doing our "artwork" recently. We'd like to see this version of Boone adopted as the official mascot of the Athletic Department. LetsGoDU is doing everything in our power behind the scenes to reverse the Chancellor's decision and return Boone to the DU community. We'll be working in the Winter Quarter with DU students for a Boone Election Referendum.

Game Day Articles on DU-CC Halloween Tilt
